Man, wife shot dead for ‘honour’ in Ittehad Town

KARACHI: A couple was shot dead in Ittehad Town on Saturday night over so-called ‘honour’, said police.

They added that Ibrahim Jamshed and his wife Shakila were killed by the accused identified as Husain in Jedda Hazara Colony.

Ittehad Town police SHO Inayatullah Marwat said the police had arrested the suspect and recovered a pistol allegedly used in the murder.

The police officer said that the suspect was an elder brother of the male victim.

During the initial probe, it transpired that the suspect killed his sister-in-law because he believed that she used to meet some ‘bad people.’

However, when his own younger brother intervened, he killed him too.

The bodies were taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi to fulfill medico-legal formalities.

Man awarded triple death sentence for raping, killing minor girl in KP

PESHAWAR: A Child Protection Court Thursday awarded three death sentences to a man for raping, killing and then burning the body of an eight-year-old girl in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s capital.

Child Protection Court Judge Hina Mehwish issued the judgment and also directed the convict, Asif Raza alias Malangay, to pay a fine of Rs1 million.

The girl’s body was found in the Balokhel Bala area, falling in the limits of Badaber police station on November 19, 2020, a day after she went missing. The minor girl’s family and residents of the area staged a protest.

Top officials took notice of the horrible act and a case was then registered. The police arrested the accused on December 11, 2020.

During the course of proceedings, the police had informed the court that the accused had first raped and then killed the minor. Then he burnt the body and dumped it in a graveyard. The law enforcers also informed the court that several cases were registered against Raza at the Badaber Police Station.

Days before this incident took place, a four-year-old boy, Tahirullah, was found dead in the fields within the limits of the Badaber Police Station with his abdomen cut.

Five days later, Aalya was killed and her body was set on fire in the Balokhel area of Badaber. The two incidents created an atmosphere of fear in Badaber and the rest of rural Peshawar.

Court sentences convict to death for assaulting killing minor girl

PESHAWAR: A child protection court has found an accused guilty of sexually assaulting and killing an eight-year-old girl and later burning her body and has sentenced him to death with fine of one million rupees.

The court presided over by additional sessions judge Hina Mehwish ruled that the prosecution had successfully proved its case against the accused, Asif Raza alias Malang, a resident of Balokhel village in Badabher area of Peshawar.

The court pronounced death sentence to the convict on three counts under section 302 (intentional murder), 376 (rape) and 364-A (kidnapping a person under the age of 14) of Pakistan Penal Code.

The bench ordered that the fine should be paid to the legal heirs of the deceased child as compensation.

The court directed the superintendent of the Peshawar jail, where the convict has bene imprisoned, to carry out the awarded sentence upon confirmation of his conviction and sentence from the appellate court.

The minor girl had gone missing on Nov 18, 2020, and the next day her charred body was recovered from a graveyard in the area.

The occurrence had resulted into a public outcry and outrage and the convict was arrested a few days later. The house of the convict was also burned down by the enraged villagers after his arrest.

Father of the deceased child had initially lodged a complaint with the police regarding disappearance of his daughter. Subsequently, when body of the deceased was recovered an FIR was registered under different provisions of the PPC and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Act.

The complainant had stated that on Nov 18, 2020, he had gone out to purchase some daily use items when he received a call from his father in the evening asking whether his daughter was with him or not. He stated that he returned home and found out that his daughter had gone missing.

The next day, he stated, the charred body of his daughter was found at a graveyard.

A few days later the convict was produced before the media persons in a briefing by high-ups of the police department stating that he had escaped to the adjacent Khyber district after the occurrence from where he was arrested.

Senior lawyer Syed Abdul Fayyaz appeared for the complainant whereas public prosecutor Arif Bilal represented the state.

The complainant’s counsel contended that the evidence on record fully connected the accused with the commission of the offence.

He contended that the accused had voluntarily confessed that he had molested the child when she had come to his residence, where he was alone at that time. He stated that he had also admitted that he then killed her and also torched her body so as to avoid his arrest by the police.

The counsel argued that the police had also recovered the motorcycle on which he had taken the body to the graveyard, where it was put to torch. He added that an employee of the filling station from where the accused had purchased petrol for purpose of burning down the body of the victim had also recorded his statement against him.

He further argued that a woman, who was cutting grass in the area when the accused was shifting the body to the graveyard, had also recorded her statement wherein she stated that she had spotted him in suspicious condition.

He contended that the accused was involved in an inhuman act and he did not deserve any leniency.

CM visits victim girl’s house near Dijkot

FAISALABAD  –  Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday visited the house of a sixyear- old girl who was killed after being raped in a village near Dijkot.

The CM met parents of the victim girl and promised to provide them justice under the law. He expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condolences with the parents of the victim girl. Expressing compassion, the CM said that it was his duty to give you immediate justice, adding that Inshallah, you would be provided justice.

“I promise that no effort will be spared in providing you justice”, he said

and added that the accused would not escape from the grip of law. He said that whoever wronged you, will soon be brought to justice. Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi also offered Fateha Khawani for the departed soul. Provincial Minister for Information Amir Mir, Chief Secretary, IG Punjab,

Commissioner Faisalabad Division, CPO and other officers were present on the occasion. Earlier, the Chief Minister visited the Divisional Public School (DPS).

He went to an Autism center, met with the children suffering from autism and loved them. He also met the staff. Mohsin Naqvi appreciated the efforts of Commissioner Faisalabad for setting up an autism center.

When the CM Mohsin Naqvi was on his way back from DPS, he stopped his car to see the children at the main gate. He went to the children and talked to them. The children asked for a library and a computer lab in the junior school, on which the CM issued necessary directions to the Commissioner. The Chief Minister also visited the canal road. He praised the lights and fountains installed on both sides of the canal. Appreciating the efforts of divisional and district administration, the CM directed the secretary Housing for installation of such types of multi-colour fountains on Lahore canal road.

Abandoned baby girl stolen from hospital is dead

MUZAFFARGARH: An abandoned baby girl, who had been previously stolen from a government hospital, died and buried at an undisclosed location on Wednesday.

According to the Qureshi police, the series of events began when a baby girl was born to an unmarried woman at a private clinic in Basira town on Oct 14. Lady Health Visitor (LHV) Nasira Talha brought the infant to the Basira Rural Health Centre in critical condition, seeking urgent medical attention. She informed the doctor that the baby’s delivery had taken place at her quarters and that the infant now required oxygen support. The doctor decided to refer the infant to the Indus Hospital in Muzaffargarh.

In the documents, the LHV listed herself as the mother and her husband, Talha Nasir, as the father of the baby. She mentioned the identity card of Saleem. During the admission process at the Indus Hospital, the LHV’s female attendant identified the baby as Fatima, with parents named as Nasira and Talha. Later, the LHV and her associates fled with the infant when the Indus Hospital recommended transferring the baby to the Children’s Hospital in Multan.

The police investigation, according a first information report, said that the baby had died. Further inquiries indicated that Nasira, Talha, Saleem, and their unidentified accomplices had buried the infant at an undisclosed location.

 

Deputy Commissioner Mian Usman Ali took notice of the incident, seeking a comprehensive report from the health department. He directed Chief Executive Officer for Health Dr Zaffar Iqbal to take action against unqualified medical practitioners, and that the people running clinics illegally should be arrested.

A case has been registered against LHV Nasira, her husband Talha, Saleem, their unidentified maid, and other people involved in the case.
