Kidnapping of people through Facebook, Twitter

GUJRANWALA: The police claimed to have arrested six kidnappers, including the son of an SHO and a girl who lured people through Facebook and Twitter, here on Saturday.

The arrested kidnappers are: Adeel Akbar of Tatle Aali, his wife Sheeza, Muhammad Amir of Tatle Aali, Umar of Sialkot’s Model Town and Daud, son of Inspector Ghulam Qadir, of Tatle Aali. Addressing a press conference, CPO Raja Riffat said that the accused had kidnapped Ahsan Waqar last month and released him after receiving Rs 1.7 million. He disclosed that the accused had also abducted Ahmad Raza and Amir Sohail and released them after receiving Rs 100,000 as ransom.

He said that the kidnappers had received ransom from a man who did not approach the police. He disclosed that all the incidents had occurred with the help of Sheeza who allured people through Facebook and Twitter and called them to deserted places in the name of love from where her accomplices kidnapped their targets. He said that Rs 900,000, two cars, two pistols and several cell phones were recovered from the kidnappers.

The CPO disclosed that the accused had kidnapped Attique, a son of Habibur Rehman of Shaheenabad, and the Dhulley police had registered the case. He said that a team headed by City SP Liaquat Ali ahd traced the accused. “It is sad that the kidnappers killed the child even after receiving the ransom fearing that the boy might disclose their identity because one of the culprits was a relative of Habib,” he lamented.

The CPO said that after the kidnapping of Ahsan Waqar, he had constituted a team headed by Civil Lines SP Shoaib Khurram Shahbaz who traced and identified the kidnappers.

The police also produced all the five accused before the media. Sheeza told journalists that she had always acted on the orders of her husband and was opposed to his activities. Adeel Akbar told that he had contracted a love marriage and needed money to live away from his family. Adeel Akbar and Umar are said to be law graduates. The SSP Operations, SSP Investigations, SP Civil Lines and SP City were also present.
