On January 29, A couple tragically murdered in an armed attack believed to be related to an honour killing in Karachi’s Bhains Colony area on Wednesday evening. A bystander was also injured during the incident. The police have launched a search for the suspects, including the woman’s father, who is alleged to have led the attack.
The incident occurred near Road No. 11, Insaf Kanta in the Sukhan area. Authorities, alerted by emergency calls, arrived at the scene to discover three individuals with gunshot wounds. The victims were urgently transported to Jinnah Hospital by rescue teams.
At the hospital, it was confirmed that 27-year-old Saima and her 30-year-old husband Sudhir succumbed to their injuries. The couple had recently married out of choice, a decision that was reportedly opposed by Saima’s family. They were identified as residents of the Sukhan area, having moved there after their marriage in Sujawal.
The injured bystander, identified as 53-year-old Bashir Ahmed, is reported to be in stable condition. He was apparently caught in the gunfire by chance.
Initial police investigations suggest that Saima’s father, named Deedar, along with two accomplices, ambushed the couple as they returned from grocery shopping and opened fire before fleeing the scene. The motive appears to be related to the couple’s decision to marry for love, which was disapproved of by Saima’s family.
Following the tragic event, Javed Alam Odho, the Inspector General of Police for Sindh, demanded a comprehensive report from the DIG East. He emphasized that honour killings are severe crimes and assured that such acts would not be tolerated.
The area was cordoned off for evidence collection, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the accused. Odho reiterated the commitment of the police to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
