National – [Health, Economy] – ECC Greenlights Massive Rs 29.6 Billion Grant to Bolster National Immunisation Drive

Islamabad, 28-Jan-2026 (PPI): The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has sanctioned a substantial Technical Supplementary Grant of 29.663 billion rupees for the Federal Directorate of Immunization, a critical move to guarantee the uninterrupted procurement of vaccines and syringes for the nation’s Expanded Programme on Immunization. The decision, made during a meeting presided over by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, aims to prevent outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases and uphold Pakistan’s international public health commitments.

In a significant move to manage agricultural surpluses, the committee approved the disposal of 500,000 metric tons of wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) reserves through a competitive bidding process. This action is intended to curtail carrying and storage costs while stabilising domestic wheat prices.

Furthermore, the ECC sanctioned the provision of 300,000 metric tons of PASSCO wheat to the Government of Punjab’s Food and Consumer Protection Department. The allocation is designed to maintain adequate supplies for flour mills and ensure the consistent availability of wheat flour for consumers.

The committee also addressed long-standing financial issues, authorising the release of a 10.98 billion rupee Technical Supplementary Grant to clear the Pakistan Post Office Department’s outstanding liabilities with utility companies, which have accumulated over several years.

To support the agricultural sector, a decision was made to share the subsidy on imported urea on a 50:50 basis between the federal and provincial governments. A grant of 23.42 billion rupees was approved for this purpose, with the Finance Division set to release an initial 15 billion rupees, while the remainder will be arranged subject to available fiscal space.

For regional development, a grant of 1.9 billion rupees was approved for the Ministry of Housing and Works. These funds are designated for development schemes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme.

Additionally, a 150 million rupee grant was approved for Cadet College Hasan Abdal to meet its operational and developmental requirements.

The committee also approved a plan to distribute confiscated solar panels to the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan. The initiative, which includes a transportation and distribution plan, is intended to alleviate electricity shortages and promote renewable energy solutions in the region.
