Ex-police constable accused in transgender kidnap & rape case killed during Gujrat police raid

On January 28, Ex police constable implicated in multiple criminal activities including a recent kidnap and rape case, fatally shot by his own accomplices in an incident in Lalamusa Saddar, Gujrat. The deceased, identified as Naveed Inayat also known as Mirza Chand, was involved in a confrontation when his accomplices attempted to rescue him during a police-led operation on Tuesday.

Gujrat police spokesperson reported that the operation was aimed at recovering illegal weapons with Inayat being the primary suspect. During the operation, armed individuals, believed to be Inayat’s accomplices, opened fire in an attempt to disrupt the police and facilitate Inayat’s escape. The attempt backfired resulting in Inayat’s death, while the assailants managed to escape the scene.

Further investigations and a formal case are underway by Lalamusa Saddar police against the attackers. The spokesperson detailed Inayat’s notorious criminal background, highlighting his involvement in over a dozen criminal cases. This includes a notably heinous crime committed in January against a transperson, where Inayat and another suspect were accused of kidnapping and rape.

Inayat’s criminal record extends to a 2016 case where he was convicted for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of the son of an overseas Pakistani. Although initially sentenced to death, he was later acquitted by the high court. His criminal activities led to his dismissal from the police force several years ago.

According to Dawn’s report, the police have successfully apprehended Inayat’s accomplice involved in the January rape case. An FIR has been registered under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, ensuring legal proceedings are in place for justice.
