HYDERABAD: This is with reference to an article of January 5 by Ayesha Asghar titled “Targeting Hindu girls for rape”. I agree with the writer but would like to add my two cents about the role of national media on his issue.
These days in Pakistan, the media is a powerful institution and by highlighting injustices can make the government or the judiciary take corrective action. A good example of this is the role it has played in the murder of Shahzeb Khan. Unfortunately, however, our national media has not been all that vocal in the matter of the country’s Hindu community being targeted and harassed, simply because of its faith. Take the issue of Vajinti Kumari whose ordeal was raised in the Sindhi media only and not in the national media.
