Senator Hamdullah granted interim bail in Marvi’s case

ISLAMABAD: A local court in Islamabad on Thursday granted an interim bail for JUI-F Senator Hafiz Hamdullah till June 23 in a case of verbal assault on rights activist Marvi Sirmed in a TV talk show.According to the details the Senator appeared before the additional sessions judge Raja Asif Mehmood and filed a bail petition while pleading not guilty.

The court ordered Hafiz Hamdullah to submit surety bond of Rs 30,000.The court also directed the officials of Kohsar police station to appear before the court and submit the record on June 23.A case was registered against Hafiz Hamdullah for allegedly threatening and manhandling Marvi Sirmed in a television show.Marvi Sirmed and Hafiz Hamdullah were involved in a fiery exchange of arguments during the recording of a programme that was to be aired on a private news channel.

Marvi accused Hamdullah of abusing her with “worst possible expletives” during a TV programme regarding honor killings aired on June 10.The disturbing incident caused outrage on social media, drawing condemnations from political leaders, journalists and rights defenders.
