21 women councillors elected unopposed in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: The symbols for the by-polls in Rawalpindi Tehsil were allotted to the candidates on March 17. There are 84 vacant slots of Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors, including 28 seats of minority councillors. However, nomination papers were filed only for 14 minority seats.

As many as 21 women councillors, five male councillors and a Nazim and Naib Nazim have been elected unopposed. Amjad Muneer and Safeer Abbasi were elected unopposed for UC-79 Nazim and Naib Nazim respectively. The five male councillors included, Nazir Maseh (UC-27), Shakeel Yousaf (UC-10), Munawar Jan (UC-1), Abdul Aziz (UC-100) and Ghulam Sarwar (UC-81).

The women councillors, who were elected unopposed, included Ms Jamila Rafique (UC-45), Fazeelatun Nisa (UC-44), Balqees Fatima (UC-42), Fakhira Sultana (UC-32), Perveen Akhtar (UC-30), Noor Jehan (UC-19), Shahida Zahid (UC-18), Irshad Bibi (UC-8), Raziya Bibi (UC-5), Ghulam Fatima (UC-1), Tasleem Fatima (UC-103), Farzana Bibi (UC-93), Khurshid Begum, Zubaida Begum (UC-92), Tabassum Naz (UC-86), Naureen Akhtar (UC-84), Safiya Begum (UC- 81) and Mukhtar Begum (UC-78).
