KARACHI: A 28-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for killing his wife at their house in Manzoor Colony, police said.
The Baloch Colony police said that Samar Abbas Butt, son of Abid Hussain Butt, was brought to the police station by his father who stated that his daughter-in-law, Aasia, 24, was unintentionally killed by his son.
The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where medico-legal sources said that the woman had been strangled.
The area SHO, Inspector Syed Haider Ali Zaidi, told Dawn that the suspect, a real estate dealer, was booked in the case (FIR 355/2009) under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim’s cousin, Farhat Abbas Butt.
He quoted the suspect as telling him that he had an altercation with his wife before he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her down.
During a preliminary interrogation, the suspect stated that he returned home at 12.15am and his wife asked him to take her for Eid shopping immediately. He said that his wife became furious when he told her that they would go for shopping on Monday as he was exhausted.
The suspect, who married the victim woman some four months ago, stated that he grabbed his wife’s neck and pushed her back when she became violent and pounced on him.
The estate agent said that his wife fell to the ground and died instantly.
The SHO said that the victim’s father-in-law wanted to become a complainant against his son in the case, but police made a victim’s cousin complainant.
