Women’s body defines domestic worker

LAHORE : The All Pakistan Women Association Punjab released position paper on domestic workers at a consultative meeting of the working group on Thursday.

Representatives from different organisations including APWA, SPO, AF, WWO, WWU, UNWomen, WISE, Plan International, women parliamentarians from the Punjab Assembly, officials from the Punjab Labour Directorate attended the meeting.

APWA Punjab presented a comprehensive paper on domestic workers, which defined domestic worker and domestic work and talks about assurance of basic rights of the domestic workers including decent work for decent wages. Members gave suggestions on the paper.

First time all stakeholders agreed upon the definition of domestic worker.

On the occasion, Ruhi Sayid , Chairperson APWA, Shamsa Ali, Head Legal Aid APWA, Dure Shawar Program Manager APWA, Shamim Malick, Consultant APWA Research and Policy framework, Maria Kokab of Home Net, Aima Mahmood of WWO, Mumtaz Mughal of AF, Tahi Manzoor, Director Labour department, Bushra Khaliq of WISE and others were present.
