Women Journalists role in society underlined

ISLAMABAD: Raja Shafqat Khan Abbasi has said that Pakistan, just like any other country, needs the participation of women journalists.

“The environment required to create new legislation can be formed by women journalists who need to play their role by writing about themes and issues often overlooked by many in short; I would say that women journalists could play a chief role with their writings,” Shafqat Khan, chairman Press Council of Pakistan (PCP), said.

PCP along with Fredrich Naumen Foundation for Freedom organized a one day workshop at Fatima Jinnah women university on “Future Journalists and Broadcast Challenges”. The purpose of the workshop was to create awareness among the Mass communication students about the current issues which the journalists are facing during their practical profession career.

Olaf representative of FNF has defined the role of FNF for freedom for peaceful and progressivePakistan, during his speech he has emphasized on cultural change and said that Marshall Mcluhan the founder of phrase “Global Village” while expressing his views about the broadcast challenges.

He emphasized on debate and tolerance not only among the broadcast houses but viewership as well, he also said that youth is the basic tool of the change and without their involvement society cannot convert itself into a modern society, although constitution of Pakistan gives every individual freedom of expression and freedom of information but this is the duty of media to draw the red lines for the larger interest of the nation so that youth could participate better to uplift the nation into a higher level, he again said that this good step to trained the mass media students.

Sixty female future journalists attended the daylong event, as they shared their observations on various broad cast challenges facing the country.
