Women improve politics: Ann Stone

Karachi:Ms Ann E.W. Stone, a renowned business and political consultant, trainer and analyst from USA has said that free press is essential for a democratic Pakistan and a democratic government may be possible with women involvement in politics.

While addressing a seminar on “The Importance of Women Participation in Politics to Civil Society” which was organised by the Women Media Centre in Karachi on Tuesday, she said that there are five essential points that highlight the need of women in politics.

She said that the general conception is that women are less likely to be corrupt and therefore people trust them more. She said that a survey was done in Bulgaria where the results proved that 87 percent Bulgarians believed that there should be more women involved in politics to reduce corruption. Ms Stone also said that women are more sensitive towards all class of people and fight for their cause too which the male politicians tend to ignore. She said that there have been incidences where even children were forgotten and it’s the presence of women that ensure fair and balanced decision makings.

She then explained that female politicians concentrate on allocating health and education in the country’s budget too while their male counterparts tend to overspend on military and infrastructure. She gave special emphasis on her final point when she said that women are peace makers and considering the present times world scenario, it is very essential for women to actively participate in politics.
