Women development activities in NWFP reviewed

PESHAWAR,February 06,2005:The NWFP Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development Kashif Azam and MPA Javed Khan called on Begum Shamim Iftikhar, wife of the NWFP Governor at Governor’s House here on Saturday.

They discussed maters pertaining to the social welfare and women development activities in the province. The Minister and MPA appreciated the efforts and endeavours of Begum Shamim Iftikhar, which she has been doing for the welfare of the disabled and destitute segments of the society as well as for the well being of the women of the province and FATA on different forums.

During the discussion, Begum Shamim laid emphasis on women education saying that educated women could become a source to promote an educated and well mannered nation. She, in this connection also referred to the activities of Basic Education and Skill Development Trust, working under her patronage in Kohat district and said that the trust has provided an effective infrastructure to educate the women folk.

Begum Shamim Iftikhar also underlined the need for collective efforts for the overall benefit of the people of the province saying,” we should strive collectively to get due representation for the province in the social welfare and women development activities carried out at the Federal level “.

The minister Kashif Azam said on the occasion that the provincial government has adopted a well thought out policy in respect of women employees particularly in the education sector and they are posted at the nearest stations to ease their sufferings.

He also mentioned the recruitment of PTC teachers and said that 75 percent recruitment have been made at the Union Council level to accommodate the local educated women.
