Woman slaughtered by son, nephews

KARACHI, Jan 15: A 45-year-old woman was slaughtered on Thursday in her home by her son and nephews in Qayyumabad.

The Korangi Industrial Area police said the victim woman, Ameera Bibi, had married Allah Yar some eight years back after her first husband, Noor Mohammed, died.

They said the victim’s son, Amjad, from her first husband wanted his mother to divorce the second husband, and he killed the woman when she refused to end her second marriage.

The police said the suspect, Amjad, with his maternal cousins, Shafi and Imran, came to the victim’s house (89, Gali 4) on Wednesday and stayed the night at the victim’s place.

They said the victim’s husband, a junk vendor, left home for work in the morning and he returned at around 3pm to find his wife slaughtered. The suspects had fled the scene before Allah Yar returned home.

He reported the matter to the police who shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the throat of the woman had been slit with a sharp-edged object.

The police said they did not find the weapon used in the crime.

They said a search had been mounted for the absconding suspects, who are stated to be the residents of Khuda Ki Basti in the Khwaja Ajmair Nagri police limits. The police said that no case was registered till late as the victim’s husband was busy with the funeral.

They said the woman had seven children from her late husband and she had no child from the second one.

The police said the victim’s children were grown up and lived with their other relatives, while the woman lived alone with her second husband.
