Woman not raped, says PPL

SUI: The management of the Pakistan Petroleum Limited took a strong exception to some one-sided media reports regarding the contents of the FIR falsely registered by Firdaus Bibi, wife of deceased PPL worker M Ayub, against three company employees and Defence Services Guards (DSG) personnel.

The preliminary investigations by the PPL management, which has accessed a copy of the FIR, not only clearly revealed that Firdaus BibiÕs allegations in the FIR were completely baseless but also did not include any charges of gang rape by the accused.

The factual position is that Firdaus Bibi is illegally occupying the companyÕs staff quarters located in the Sui Gas Field, which is a highly sensitive installation and a restricted area as declared by the government.

Therefore, prolonged occupation of company accommodation by former employees or their families beyond the authorised period may pose serious security risks.

In Firdaus BibiÕs case, this period ended in 2003 when the company settled all her dues as the heir of its former employee. Thereafter, she remained in unauthorised possession of the accommodation.

Accordingly, in August 2008, the law-enforcement agencies entrusted with the security of the Sui Gas Field, evicted many illegal occupants and served notices to few others, including Firdaus Bibi, who also maintains another residence in Multan and occasionally visited Sui. When Firdaus Bibi was away in Multan for a prolonged period and her Sui residence was vacant, the DSG personnel locked the premises for security reasons.

On September 14, Firdaus Bibi returned to Sui and reoccupied the premises after breaking the lock put by the DSG. On the day of her arrival in Sui, the DSG personnel, along with a lady searcher, visited Firdaus BibiÕs quarters, asking her to vacate the premises along with her belongings.

The DSG personnel and the lady searcher were not accompanied by the PPL employees accused by the complainant. Eventually, Firdaus Bibi was convinced to leave the premises.

However, on the same day Firdaus Bibi proceeded to register an FIR at the Sui police station, alleging that she was beaten and publicly insulted by a DSG Sepoy as well as three company officers, none of whom were present on the occasion.

The company reiterated that the FIR registered by Firdaus Bibi had not alleged rape by the DSG personnel or the PPL employees as evident from the contents of the attached copy of the FIR. The company has denied false charges of illegal confinement, denial of medical examination or extension of conciliatory offers, directly or through others, to the complainant to withdraw the case in exchange of monetary compensation and prospective employment for her family members.

In light of this, it is apparent that Firdaus Bibi has concocted the story and lodged a false FIR to pressurise the company to allow her to continue unauthorised possession of the accommodation.
