Woman burnt to death by in-laws

RAWALPINDI: A 30-year-old woman was killed after being tortured and set on fire allegedly by her in-laws in the Airport police area on Thursday, police said.

According to the police, Rehana Gulzar married to Faisal Taj four year ago and settled in Gulzar-i-Quaid was killed in her husband’s house.

Tanveer Ahmed, victim’s brother-in-law, told Dawn that she had been tortured by her in-laws over domestic issues since she married to Mr Taj and had complained several times about that.

“In her last telephonic conversation, she told her parents last midnight that she was being tortured by her in-laws but later her voice chocked and finally she met her fate,” he added. She was shifted to the District Headquarters hospital in the morning where the doctors pronounced her dead. She had not given even a single worded statement before dying.

“She had been badly burnt and her body parts had been separated. Only the lower parts of her legs were intact,” lady doctor, who carried out postmortem on her body, said.

Her brother-in-law accused that she was tortured and doused with acid by her father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who burnt her to death. The police on the complaint of her brother Naveed Akhtar have registered a case against the accused.
