Woman among three killed in separate mishaps

LAHORE: A body of a woman was recovered from a gunny bag near canal in Sundar police area, while two other people were killed in different incidents across the city on Tuesday.

Police said some unknown persons killed the woman after severe torture and abandoned her body. They said the victim was served some poisonous substance which resulted into her death. Police also made announcements in locals mosques but no one claimed the body.

Separately, a 40-year-old man, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, was killed by a speeding truck in Sanda police limits.

Police investigator said the victim was on his way on a cycle when a speeding truck ran over him on Bund Road, resulting her instant death. The truck driver escaped from the scene. Police have registered a case against unknown driver and shifted the dead body to city mortuary for autopsy.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man was found dead in the jurisdiction of New Anarkali police station area. Police said the deceased was yet to be identified and some locals spotted the body lying near Urdu Bazaar and informed law enforcers about it. Police added that initially deceased seemed to be a drug addict. Separately, city investigation police wing arrested 199 members of 53 gangs of criminals during the last six months.

The police also submitted seven challans of dacoity and murder cases and 12 challans of kidnapping cases to their respective courts during the same period. Similarly, police arrested 5,266 proclaimed offenders during the last six months.

Meanwhile, Subzazar police arrested three bootleggers and recovered dozens of bottles of liquor from their possession. Police also registered a case against accused Anwar and his accomplice.
