Two cops detained for harassing woman

Two policemen were taken into custody on Friday for allegedly harassing a woman a day earlier on Khayaban-e-Shujaat in Defence Housing Authority.

According to an official handout, Sindh Home Minister Suhail Anwar Khan Siyal took notice of the incident after a social media video went viral. He ordered the SSP South to probe the matter and arrest the cops.

The home minister’s spokesperson said that the two policemen had been detained and an investigation was under way.

The video shows a police mobile bearing registration number SPE 489 passing through Khayaban-e-Shujaat and pulling over close to the woman. The policemen then made some remarks about the woman.

One of the several men who had gathered at the scene can be seen accusing a cop of pushing the woman and making derogatory remarks about her.

Another man from the crowd condemned the police behaviour and called for making an example of them. The woman herself refused to leave the scene until the cops were taken to task.

Cop held for murder

A 20-year-old man who was shot and injured by a cop at a house in the Police Headquarters, Garden, on the second day of Eidul Fitr succumbed to his wounds on Thursday, our correspondent adds.

SHO Saeed Akhtar of the Nabi Bux Police Station said Khizar Khan, son of Israr Khan, was shot by Head Constable (HC) Abdullah and his companion Shahzad Baloch over a personal dispute. He said Abdullah called Khizar at his house and shot him after an exchange of heated arguments.

Police later arrested both the suspects and registered an FIR against them.

Separately, a man was shot dead and another injured by muggers in two incidents.

A 35-year-old man was shot dead by robbers PECHS Block-VI. Officials at the Tipu Sultan Police Station said the incident took place near Shoukat Dairy near Ambala Bakery.

Police said the victim was identified as Talha Ahmed, son of Nayab Ahmed. Police suspected that Talha was gunned down for putting resistance to muggers.

In another incident, muggers shot and injured an eighteen-year-old boy near Cheel Chowk.

Officials at the Kalakot Police Station said Andul Wahid, son of Shahid Khan, was shot when he resisted a robbery bid near the Eidgah Masjid. The injured was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors said he was out of danger.
