Torture of maidservant: FIR registered

Karachi: A case under illegal confinement, torture and attempt to cause injuries charges has been registered on the complaint of maidservant against her employer, SHO Darakshan told Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday.

The case was registered upon court directions for initiating action on the complaint of maidservant who accused her employer of keeping her in illegal confinement and torturing her at the employer’s house in DHA area. Ms. Rasheeda Bibi had moved court against the alleged detention of her daughter Ms. Razia, submitting that her daughter was not being allowed to meet her and was being tortured and kept in inhuman condition.

The petitioner, submitted that her daughter Ms. Razia was working at the bungalow of Ms. Zafreen Irfan situated in Khayaban-e-Bilal, DHA Phase-VI for the last 17 years. She alleged that the employer also forcibly got her daughter married with one Ameer Hussain.

Maidservant Razia, who was recovered last week, told the SHC that she was detained by her employer and she and her family tortured her during detention.

SHO Darakshan Zia Rizvi submitted that after receiving medical report of the complainant an FIR has been registered against the employer under sections 342, 354 and 337 (f) (i) PPC, adding, the case was being proceeded and action would be taken as per the law.

Assistant Advocate General Asadullah Baloch, however, submitted that FIR was not lodged by the SHO properly, adding, the case should have been registered under sections 365, 337 A & V. The SHO undertook to take necessary action in this regard.

Disposing of the petition, SHCÂ’s single bench comprising Justice Munib Ahmed Khan expected that the police would conduct fair and proper inquiry into the matter.
