Sonia rape case: lawyers reject probe commission under magistrate

MANSEHRA: The local lawyers here Thursday expressed lack of confidence in the judicial commission constituted on the order of the Peshawar High Court chief justice to probe the alleged rape case of a teenager. “We reject the judicial commission under a local judicial magistrate as the police is party to the Sonia rape case,” argued Mansehra District Bar Association president Shahjahan Khan Swati. A runaway girl, Sonia, had accused the police officials of raping her earlier this month.

Earlier, the lawyers had demanded formation of a judicial commission headed by a judge of the high court to probe the case. Shahjahan Swati said the lawyers and people in Mansehra were of the opinion that the high-ups of the police could influence the probe because the local cops were allegedly involved in this heinous crime.
