Rape survivor’s challan not submitted

Investigation Officer (IO), Sabir Hussain, failed to submit a challan in the gang-rape of an 18-year-old woman on the premises of the Mausoleum of the Quaid-e-Azam.

The IO even did not appear in the court of Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate (JM), Javed Hussain, on Monday. Earlier the court extended the police remand of a security officer of the Mazaar-e-Quaid for his alleged involvement in the gang rape.

The court directed the IO to submit final report, but did not appear in the court. The police had arrested an assistant manager of the security posted at the mausoleum in connection with the gang rape of a young woman, who was first kidnapped from the premises by unknown men on the night of March 15 and was later found in a wobbly condition outside the Mausoleum on March 17.

Earlier the court had recorded the statement of the survivor under Section 164 of Cr PC in which she had stated that five men took her to a store room in the mausoleum at gunpoint, where she was gang-rapes. The case was registered in the Brigade police station under Section 365/B of the Pakistan Penal Code.
