Police rescues couple during jirga

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police rescued a couple during proceedings of a jirga which was called by relatives of the two sides to decide the fate of the couple in Tandojam taluka on Sunday night.

Police raided Haji Rawal Pahore village following a rescue call from the girl, Kulsom Chachhar, a resident of Sann, Jamshoro district.

She had married Ashraf Pahore, a resident of Tando Ghulam Ali, Badin, on May 25 in a Thatta court

after five year of love affair that was the off-shoot of a missed call on cell phone of girl.

The relatives of Pahore and Chahchar called them to the said village and when they reached there, they got hold of them.

Somehow, the girl informed the DPO Hyderabad Javed Alam Odho, requesting him to rush to their help as their lives are in danger and they might fall prey to karo-kari.

Police from different police stations raided the village and found the girl in the bungalow of one Tahir Pahore. The relatives, including brother of girl, fled from the scene.

Police picked up Tahir Pahore and one Musa Pahore but subsequently the girl told police that both of them had helped them in saving their lives.

The couple was produced on Monday before the court of civil judge and judicial magistrate-V.

The court set them at liberty with directives to DPO Hyderabad to shift the couple to Karachi and PPO Sindh and CCPO Karachi should ensure protection to them.

No case was lodged with Pabban police station in whose jurisdiction the village where the jirga was organised, is located.

Mr Odho told Dawn that no attempt at karo-kari was made and even a cognisable offence is made out in oral statement of the girl, therefore, she was produced before the court. He said that if there was any order regarding lodging of FIR it would be registered.
