Nameeqa wins Punjab Women Chess title

LAHORE: Nameeqa Aslam has clinched the Punjab Women Chess Championship title. In all, 24 contestants from across the Punjab took part in the event. The tournament was played in swiss league system. Nameeqa Aslam earned the first position in the tournament while Urooj Saeed was second, Mehak Gul third, Zartaj Saeed fourth and Amber Hashem fifth position.

Top five players of the tournament were selected to represent Punjab women chess team in the upcoming National Women Chess Championship 2013. Pakistan Chess Federation (PCF) secretary Dr Naeem Hamid Mirza was chief guest at the closing ceremony and distributed trophies and shields among the top performers. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Naeem said: “Holding of such events will surely help in hunting young and promising talent”.
