MoWD’s programme for Women Day

ISLAMABAD— Ministry of Women Development (MoWD) will hold a function “A Milestone in the Struggle for Women’s Rights” to mark Pakistan Women’s Day on February 12.

The event is being arranged by the ministry in collaboration with National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and Women Parliamentary Caucus at Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA).

Speaker National Assembly, Fehmida Mirza will deliver a keynote address on the occasion, said a news release issued here Wednesday.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister of Social Sector Shehnaz Wazir Ali and Chairperson NCSW Anis Haroon will also address the gathering. The poems and songs will be presented by Fehmida Riaz, Attiya Daud and Sara Zamaan while Laal Band will also perform on the day.

A number of other activities will also be arranged to mark National Women Day falling on February 12, for acknowledging women achievements and raising awareness to protect their rights.

The civil society organizations will hold seminars and panel discussion programmes and launch documentaries in connection with the women day. The seminars will be arranged at federal and district level to raise awareness among women enabling them to speak against injustice and protection of their rights.

Women across the country will commemorate February 12 as National Women Day in remembrance of the state’s brutality against them in Lahore in 1983 to protest against the Law of Evidence, which reduced the status of a women witness to half that of a male one. Like every year, a number of activities will be arranged on women day without any discrimination on ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political basis.
