SUKKUR: A man threw acid on a woman in Mooso Leghari village on Sunday after she rejected his sexual advances.
The woman, mother of nine, was brought to Civil Hospital Mirpur Mathelo, suffering from burns in the lower part of her body caused by the acid.
She said in her statement to police and journalists that a hardened criminal Asghar Bozdar had been pressurising her for some time for illicit relations with him but she always refused.
He barged into her house when her husband was not at home, overpowered her at gunpoint, tortured her children and then threw acid on lower parts of her body before fleeing, she said.
The woman’s elder brother Mohammad Usman Leghari rushed her to hospital but she was soon shifted to Sukkur Civil Hospital because the hospital had no lady doctor.
Meanwhile, in-charge of Jarwar police check-post Shahab Kolachi reportedly arrested the woman’s husband Shabaan Leghari on the charge that he kept her at home for a couple of hours after the attack instead of rushing her to hospital.
Our Shikarpur correspondent adds: A woman who was set on fire by her husband about a week ago died in a Karachi hospital on Saturday.
Her body was brought to Shikarpur and buried here on Sunday.
Ms Fehmida was allegedly set on fire by her husband Mir Mohammad Phulpoto when she was asleep in her home. Due to her serous condition the injured woman was referred to Karachi Civil Hospital.
The New Foujdari police have arrested the accused.
Meanwhile, a woman was killed in a clash between two groups of Chandio tribe in the Pathan Wah village in the jurisdiction of Humayoon police station on Sunday.
The woman was identified as Ms Hooran.
