Man remanded in rape, murder case

Karachi: A suspect was remanded on Saturday in police custody till Monday for allegedly strangling a girl to death while attempting to rape her.

Kaleem Ahmed, who allegedly took a teenaged girl to some place and attempted to rape her. However, when she started screaming he developed fear and put some cloth on her mouth, which ultimately caused her death.

Later, he stuffed the girl’s body in a gunny bag and dumped it in bushes. The accused was produced in the court of Judicial Magistrate Nadeem Bar Qazi who remanded him in police custody till Monday with the direction to the IO to produce a DNA report of the victim so as to confirm whether the teenaged girl was raped.

Meanwhile, Judicial Magistrate (West) Azizullah Khoso remanded a man along with his father for allegedly giving poison to his pregnant wife.

Munawar and his father Mohammed Habib allegedly gave poison to Kulsoom who was four months pregnant. However, she survived and lying on the bed of a government hospital in precarious condition.

According to the prosecution, Kulsoom married Munawar five months ago but Munawar used to beat her and often used abusive language against her.

She got pregnant and went to the doctor for a check-up. The doctor advised her bed rest and gave some medicines. Instead of buying medicines, Kulsoom’s father-in-law Mohammed Habib gave his daughter in-law poisonous pills due to which her condition deteriorated and she had to be admitted to hospital for treatment. Kulsoom recorded her statement before the police, following which both Munawar and his father were arrested from their Surjani Town residence.
