Man confesses to slaughtering daughters

Karachi: Mohammed Shahzad, who was charged with killing his two infant daughters, confessed his crime in court on Tuesday, and acknowledged that he must be hanged to death.

Investigation Officer (IO) Habib-ur-Rehman submitted the charge-sheet in the court of the Judicial Magistrate (JM) East Kamran Ata Soomro, on Tuesday, regarding the slaughter of two infants, 18-month-old Khushi Fatima, and nine-month-old Saman Fatima.

An unusual rush was witnessed outside the court premises when Shahzad was produced before the court amidst tight security. The IO submitted the charge-sheet stating that the accused had confessed before the court and the police officials that he committed the crime, because he suspected his wife of “moral laxity” and did not want his daughters to follow in her footsteps. He therefore killed both of them.

The 35-year old man surrendered himself to the police shortly after he slaughtered his two infant daughters at his house in Landhi. The police seized the kitchen knife used in the double murder from the suspect’s house on a lead provided by none other than the suspect himself.

Shahzad claimed that his wife was having an affair. He called his wife to tell her about killing their daughters before he surrendered himself to the police. The couple had married four years ago, against the wishes of Shahzad’s family.

Mohammed Naeem, the older brother of the accused, lodged a case (FIR No. 171/2009) against his brother under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) at the Landhi police station.

Bail application of gang-rape accused dismissed: District and Sessions Judge (DSJ), South, Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui, rejected the bail application of one of the accused, Roshan, in the alleged gang-rape of Kainat Soomro, after the completion of arguments and the presentation of the evidence in court.

Roshan filed a bail application through his counsel, Iqbal Shah. His bail application was rejected a third time after evidence was presented. He first filed a bail application in the court of Third Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) at Dadu, who dismissed it, while the Sindh High Court (SHC) also rejected his bail application.

Furthermore, Roshan himself had confessed to the court that he, along with the other accused, did commit the offence. Secondly, the medical and chemical examination proved that he had committed the crime and as such, his bail application should be dismissed. Thirdly, the special public prosecutor said that the doctor’s evidence proved that he committed sexual assault along with the other accused. Four people, Ehsan, Kaleemullah, Roshan, and Shaban Shaikh were involved in the gang-rape.
