Man burnt by in-laws dies

LAHORE, May 28: A young man succumbed to his burns in a Kharian hospital on Wednesday eight days after he was burnt by his in-laws allegedly over domestic issue in Sanda area in Lahore.

Imran Butt of Kharian Cantonment had married Rehana of Sanda nine years back but they remained issueless. The couple had also developed certain differences over domestic issues.

Rehana returned to her parents’ home in Lahore a few weeks back after a fresh argument with her husband. On May 20, Imran came to his in-laws’ house and asked his wife to go with him but she refused.

In the meantime, his father-in-law Rehmat Butt and brother-in-law Rehan Butt also had an argument with him.

Infuriated, Rehmat and Rehan reportedly later overpowered Imran, doused him with inflammables and set him ablaze.

Locals took the victim to Mayo Hospital where he told the police that his father-in-law and brother-in-law had burnt him when he went to reconcile with his wife.

Sanda supervisory police officer Khalid Mehmood told Dawn that following the statement of the victim, the police had arrested Rehmat the same day while Rehan was still at large.

He said the victim’s family had shifted Imran from Mayo Hospital to a private hospital in Kharian three days after the incident where he expired on Wednesday.
