Love marriage girl allowed to live with husband

LAHORE: The Okara DPO presented a girl, Maryiam Lashari, in the Lahore High Court on Friday after recovering her from the custody of her parents and the girl insisted to go with her husband with whom she had contracted love marriage.

As the proceedings started, the judge asked the girl why she had betrayed her parents who looked after her for so many years. “You should have better concentrated on your studies and left the marriage issue with your family,” the judge said and asked the girl with who she wanted to go with. She replied that she wanted to go with her husband, traffic warden Humayon Shahzad. Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu allowed her to go with her husband and disposed of the petition. On the previous hearing, the judge had detained the DSP city circle Okara and an SHO in courtroom for at least four hours as they failed to recover the girl.

Humayon Shahzad had filed a habeas corpus petition for recovery of his wife Maryiam Lashari. The petitioner through his counsel Asghar Ali Gill pleaded that he and Maryiam had married against the will of her family three years ago.

Later, elders of her family agreed to send her with the petitioner after few days. But they backed out of their promises and detained her at some undisclosed place. He said the girl’s brother Dr Usman Lashari, sister Dr Amina Lashari and Hassan Farooq Wattoo tortured and forced her to get divorce.
