Love marriage case

MULTAN: The groom, whose nose, ears and heels were cut in revenge for contracting marriage against the tribal traditions, and his wife are receiving life threats from unidentified people for not withdrawing the complaint against the accused.When this scribe met the injured at the Nishtar Hospital on Thursday, no security personnel was there. Shahnaz Bibi, wife of Muhammad Iqbal, told this scribe that her parents had accepted her marriage but her other relatives had made it a matter of honour for them. She said the accused wanted to kill them and they were receiving life threats from unknown people. “I have left my parents voluntarily and tied the knot with Iqbal in a court,” she said. “We have been enjoying cordial relations with my parents and the rest of family members after the marriage, but my father’s Mahota clan did not accept it. Resultantly, they chopped off body parts of my husband and his brother and injured my mother-in-law.”She said her father was not involved in the incident. Falak Sher Mahota, the girl’s father, said neither he was involved in the gruesome act nor had backed the accused. He said his relatives had made it a matter of honour, which was unjustified. Multan DPO Munir Ahmed Chishti said efforts were afoot to apprehend the remaining accused and no one would be spared. He said every kind of protection was being provided to the victims. Alpa SHO Mehr Manzoor Ahmed said an operation to arrest the culprits was under way, while accused Sarfraz, Shafi, Aslam and Ansar had been granted pre-arrest bail till January 11. The victim’s family has demanded of the government to provide security to them and free medical treatment and plastic surgery to the injured.
