KP forms body to oversee transgender issues

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formally constituted a nine-member committee to keep an eye on the issues of transgender community in the province. As per a notification issued in this connection, the Chief Minister KP has constituted a committee which would be headed by Special Assistant to CM on Information Mushtaq Ghani.

The notification said that other members of the committees are secretary social welfare department, secretary health department, secretary industries, commerce and technical education, secretary information department, Advocate General KP, Managing Director TEVTA, Farzana President of Transgender Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Qamar Naseem, program coordinator Blue Veins.It has been learnt that KP government took the step in the light of growing problems of the community in the province.
The Transgender Association KP has been working to create awareness about the transgender rights in the entire province.

In the light of various threats to the community, KP government officially constituted a committee to oversee the issues of the community.Moreover, KP government for the first time in its history has allocated Rs 200 million for the welfare of transgender in its budget for the year 2016-17.The money will be used to provide training and support for the vulnerable community.
