Khah police restrained from arresting couple

KARACHI: The Khah police (Taluka Sakrand) was restrained from arresting a couple who married of their own free will and were allegedly being harassed by the police at the behest of a cousin of the bride.

A bench comprising Justice Qaiser Iqbal and Justice Syed Mahmood Alam Rizvi, after issuing this directive, called for comments from the Khah Police Station SHO, adjourning the hearing to a date to be fixed by the office of the court.

Earlier, Advocate Khadim Hussain Kohahro, appearing for petitioners Samina Lakho and Siddique Lakho, stated that the petitioners married after obtaining a free-will certificate in Karachi in February. Soon after, Asghar Lakho, Samina’s cousin, lodged an FIR under section 365-B and the police have since arrested two of their relatives, Ishaq and Ejaz, without any charge.

He prayed the court to save the couple from police harassment, to free the illegal detainees and to order the quashing of the FIR against them.
After hearing these arguments, the bench ordered the police not to arrest the couple until the case was decided, calling in the Khah SHO to submit comments regarding the allegations of illegal detention of the two relatives.
