Kainat Soomro gang-rape case

Karachi: Additional district and sessions judge reserved till May 21, the order on the bail application of one of the men accused in the Kainat Soomro gang-rape case.

Deputy District Public Prosecutor Abdul Maroof argued that since the girl had clearly pointed out the accused and both, the medical report and the chemical examination, were also positive, the bail application could not be entertained.

He feared that after obtaining bail, the accused might kill Kainat Soomro by declaring her Karo-Kari as per the customs of Sindh. He also termed the case as identical to that of Mukhtar Mai.

He said that the bail application of the accused was rejected seven times and there was no ground for granting him bail.

The defence counsel said that since the accused had been in jail for two years, he may be granted bail. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the court reserved order till May 21.
