Honour killing taking new turns

LAHORE: A session court on Tuesday directed the investigators to record the statement of the elder sister of Farzana, tortured to death, and take action if any cogent evidence is found.

Additional district and session judge Abdul Qayyum also directed the police to allow Khalida, the petitioner, to meet her arrested father. Khalida had submitted that her father did not kill her daughter rather he was there to appear in the court. She said when her sister saw her father and brothers standing nearby, she ran towards them as she was forcibly taken and kidnapped by her ‘lover’, Muhammad Iqbal.

“She was attacked by Iqbal and his accomplices, who stoned her to death. But the police, later on, falsely implicated her father and brothers instead of the real culprits.”

The petitioner also told the court that her sister had already been married to Muzaffar Iqbal but the accused, Iqbal, used to visit her home in the absence of her husband and thus he forcibly took her to some where unknown. However, Farzana was recovered by a bailiff of court and sent to a Darul Aman in district Pakpattan. “Iqbal had killed Farzana to hush-up her dual-marriage. She was already married to her cousin but Iqbal forced her into another illegal contracted marriage with him.”

She further asked the court to order acquittal of her father and arrest of Iqbal in the case.
