Girl students, teachers asked to wear veil

MARDAN: The girl students and teachers of private schools in Mardan city have received threatening letters from unknown people, asking them to wear veil (burqa) while coming to their schools.

Sources said some unknown people visited private schools in Mardan and told their heads that they should strictly direct their female students and teachers to wear veil. They were also asked to stop co-education in their schools and bifurcate the boys and girls sections.

It was learnt that private schools in the city have tightened security because of the threats. A few days ago, some unknown people also distributed threatening letters in mosques and houses of people in the nearby Laundkhawar village.

“Women should not come out of their homes,” the letters stated. “We will kidnap them if they come out of their homes.”Asked about the situation during a press conference, District Police Officer Muhammad Iqbal Khan expressed his ignorance about the circulation of such letters.
