Girl presumed dead appears in court

SUKKUR: In an event which appeared to be stranger than fiction, a girl who had been declared dead suddenly appeared before the Sindh High Court’s circuit bench here on Tuesday along with her lawyer, Athar Iqbal Shaikh.

According to the sources, Sallih Patt Police Station had registered an FIR in December last year against Abdul Sattar, Bhoral and Morriro, father, a brother and a cousin respectively of a missing girl, Bibai Mahamadani, alleging that the three men had killed the girl on the pretext of Karo Kari and threw her body into the Nara Canal. The police had even arrested the girl’s brother, Bhoral, and declared her father and cousin as absconders in the case.

And all of a sudden, the girl appeared in the court on Tuesday along with her lawyer, declaring that she had been kidnapped at gunpoint allegedly by Ahmed Ali and Noor Khan Mahar outside her village.

She alleged that the accused kept her hostage in Karachi for four months where they sexually assaulted her. She said that the accused later freed her near her village and escaped. The girl also alleged that her kidnappers had been threatening her of dire consequences and they even attempted to kill her. The circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on her petition summoned the DIG and SSP of Sukkur as well as the SHO and ASI concerned on August 6.

Meanwhile, the father and the cousin of the girl had been asking who would get them justice for having lived for all these months in fear of being arrested for a crime they had not committed and who would compensate the girl’s brother of having spent six months in prison while being innocent. They said they had pinned all their hopes on the court for getting justice.
