Father, uncle electrocute girl for ‘honour’

VEHARI, Feb 3: A teenage girl was allegedly electrocuted by her father and uncle on Thursday in the name of honour at Mohal village in Luddan police station precincts.

According to family sources, Rafia (15), a student of eighth class, allegedly had an affair with a youth of the same village and the both wanted to marry against the will of their elders.

The girl’s relatives, especially her father Mukhtar and uncle Fiaz, were against the marriage on the grounds that the young man belonged to a lower cast.

The sources said actually Mukhtar and Fiaz wanted to wed Rafia to a married relative. Rafia, obviously, was against the idea.

Luddan police station SHO said the girl’s father and her uncle electrocuted her when she refused to marry an already married relative.

He said a case had been registered against the both accused on the complaint of victim’s mother Mumtaz Bibi after they were arrested.

Police had also picked up two other relatives of the victim for investigation, he added.

The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy at the DHQ hospital.
