Exploited and assaulted: Woman ‘kidnapped, raped, sold’ in RY Khan

BAHAWALPUR: Scores of relatives of a woman, who was allegedly kidnapped along with her children and raped by three men, on Thursday staged a protest demonstration against police for dismissing an FIR against the accused.

Zara Inam*, a resident of Basti Pahoran near Rahim Yar Khan, said she was at home a couple of months ago when Kabeer, Panjoo and Sattar Yasin came to her and said that her my husband Jehangir had had an accident. “They told me they could take me to the hospital,” Inam told journalists. She said she took her three children and Rs28,000 and got into their car.

“Instead of driving us to the hospital they took us to an unidentified location where three men, Abdul Malik, Irshad and Nazir, raped me and robbed me of my gold jewellery and the Rs28,000.”

She said Kabeer, Panjoo and Yasin later sold her to Bhural, Dhuda and Zahoor for Rs80,000.

The woman said the accused also threatened her of dire consequences if she sought to proceed against them in any way.

She said she complained to a magistrate who sent her and her children to a shelter home. “Abadpur police had also registered a case against the accused on the orders of an additional district and sessions judge.” She said instead of arresting the accused, police were now pressuring her to reach a settlement with them.

Inam said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ghulam Qadir, who was the investigation officer, had also dismissed the case. She said she had gone to District Police Officer (DPO) Sohail Zafar Chattha to seek his help but his staff did not let her to meet him. She said the staff had also misplaced her written complaint.

The woman requested the DPO to take action against the police officers who were helping the accused escape justice.

Woman killed for denying advances

A man late on Wednesday killed a woman for refusing to have an affair with him in Bahawalpur.

Ghulam Haider, a resident of village 7DNB, Head Rajkan, told police that his daughter Haleema Bibi had married Muhammad Yasin of Lodhran 10 years ago.

Haider said Bibi’s neighbour, Piya, used to tease her and tried to lure her into an illicit relationship. He said the couple later moved to village 8DNB but Piya kept on following her daughter. On Wednesday, Bibi had come to visit her parents along with her three children, Haider said.

“We were asleep when Piya along with two other men, including Muhammad Iqbal, broke into our house and asked Haleema to go with them. We went to rescue her when she cried for help but Iqbal slit her throat and Piya shot her in the chest. She died in front of our eyes.”

Police registered a case against the three men and sent the victim’s body for autopsy.
