‘Deranged’ girl rescued from father’s detention cell

SIALKOT, June 28: Sialkot Cantt police with the help of local journalists rescued on Sunday a chained girl from illegal detention of her father at far-off Kajleywal village near Sialkot Working Boundary.

This was said by Sialkot district police officer Waqar Ahmad Chohan while talking to newsmen here. Additional SP Ather Ismail, SP (investigation) Ali Javaid Malik, Sialkot district peace committee senior member Zafar Malik and CPLC chairman Mirza Nasir Baig were also present on the occasion.

The DPO said local landlord Muhammad Aslam had chained his daughter Farah Bibi, 24, and detained her for the last eight years. The police raided the locked house and recovered the girl.

However, girl’s relatives told the police that Farah Bibi was mentally upset after the death of her mother in her childhood and she was not happy at the second marriage of her father.

The girl also tried to leave the house after which her father chained her as a punishment and kept her detained for the last eight years.

Local villagers told the police that landlord Aslam had kept his relatives and neighbours harassed and forbade them from telling anybody about her daughter.

However, some villagers informed journalists and the girl was rescued.

According to the DPO, the police were told that the `deranged’ girl was detained to avert her missing. The DPO said: “Police were raiding for the arrest of the accused. We have handed over the girl to her relatives and will produce her before the court.”
