Demand to solve LHWs problems

Karachi: More than 100,000 lady health workers (LHWs) across the country have been playing a vital role in healthcare sector but they face a lot of problems, says Bushra Aarain, President All Pakistan Lady Health Workers Welfare Association.

Addressing a press conference here at the Karachi Press Club on Monday she said that after a tough and long struggle of LHWs the government increased their salaries from 4,000 to 7,000, but the Sindh government had not released their salaries for last four months due to which the LHWs and their families are facing difficulties.

She demanded releasing of salaries before Ramazan. She urged the government to provide LHWs all facilities enjoying by other regular employees of the health department, including house rent.

Highlighting the services of LHWs during last floods in the country she demanded of the health official to provide five-month midwifery training to LHWs and formally allow them to deal delivery cases so they could help women in case of emergency.

She demanded the government to vaccinate all LHWs against Hepatitis-C.
