Call for making legislation to overcome child marriages issue

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Law and Human Rights Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi has stressed the need for creating awareness among people aimed to overcome child marriages problem.
The minister was addressing a seminar organised by civil society organizations, including Blue Veins, PVDP, Tribal NGOs Consortium, MEN Unite, Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Network and National Action Coordination Group (NACG) at the press club yesterday.
The participants urged the government to make proper legislation to prevent and respond to the cases of child marriages in the province.
Noted among speakers in the seminar were Qamar Naseem, Coordinator of Blue Veins, Mohammad Nehar of PVDP, Taimur Kamal of Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Network and Zar Ali Khan of Tribal NGOs Consortium.
Taimur Naseem urged the provincial government to table Child Marriage Restraint (amendment) Bill 2015 in the provincial assembly without further delay and take willful actions in developing, implementing and funding cross-sectoral policies, programmers and plans to end child marriages.
