Body for women’s rights in the offing

HYDERABAD, Jan 23: A non-governmental organisation, Association for Betterment and Development of Human Being (ABAD), at a consultative meeting has decided to appoint a “district committee for women’s rights” in Hyderabad, which will investigate cases of violence against women and find out measures for their elimination.

Speaking on the occasion, the executive director of the ABAD, Rafiya Bangash advocate, said that for the last many years, the association had been providing advisory and legal help to the women and children who had been subjected to violence.

She stressed the need for appointing a district committee for the protection of women’s rights in Hyderabad, which would include lawyers, elected representatives, welfare organizations, journalists and government representatives. She said that the committee in question would investigate and identify the cases of violence against women and formulate a strategy to eliminate the menace.

Highlighting the aim of the committee, Manzoor Baloch said that the committee would not only identify and investigate cases of violence against women but would also identify other social problems confronting women as well as impart training to women about their rights.

Zafar Rajput advocate, Mustafa Baloch and Qutbuddin Dars also spoke.
