Bail plea of man charged with attempted rape rejected

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday dismissed the bail petition of an accused charged with attempted rape of an eight-year-old girl.

A single bench of Justice Ikramullah Khan dismissed the bail petition of Mujahid Shah, a resident of Mian Gujjar in Daudzai area, with the observation that no mercy should be shown to such a person, who was playing with the future of the children.

He further remarked that due to such inhuman acts, the parents were not allowing children to play outside the homes in an open environment. The court should not accept compromise between the two parties in such cases of serious nature, he added.

During the course of hearing, the bench rejected the compromise struck by the accused with the parents of the minor girl.

Additional Advocate General (AAG) Rabnawaz informed the bench that the accused was charged by father of the girl at the Daudzai Police Station under sections 376 and 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

As per the first information report, the accused gave a note of Rs20 to the girl child and then took her to an abandoned house, where he attempted to rape her. He submitted that the accused had also confessed to the crime and as such he was not liable to be freed on bail.
