Another runaway couple demand protection

KARACHI: A young man Abass Ali and his wife Rasheeda have demanded authorities to provide them protection as the girl’s relatives are trying to kill them for the sake of ‘honour’.

Ali is a landlord and a resident of a small village near Bhitshah, district Matiyari. He and Rasheeda loved each other for long time and last year they decided to marry.

However, her family was against the match and hence the couple started to think about court marriage. Since they were afraid of their relatives, they fled to Lahore and got married on November 4, 2008. “The relatives of my wife have issued threats to us and announced to kill us, so we went underground.

However, Mazari Rahoo and Mashooq Malokani, her relatives attacked my family and killed my elder brother Ghulam Rasool in Bhitshah two weeks ago,” he said. Talking to Daily Times, he said that the local police have lodged an FIR but not arrested any of the killers. He said some of the local influential landlords are supporting the family of the killers and thus police were not arresting him.

“We are afraid as the killers are continuously issuing threats. We requested Bhitshah SHO Gul Hasan Unar to take action but he refused to arrest the killers or to protect us. I request the higher authorities to provide us protection and to arrest the killers,” he said.
