Altaf for end to discrimination against women

Karachi: Altaf Hussain said on Saturday a good society could not be built unless suppressive policies and discriminatory treatment of women were ended.

“The MQM is the only party that presented the bill for the protection of women in the assembly and got it approved with convincing arguments,” said the chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a statement issued in connection with International Women’s Day.

“It is unfortunate that despite the passage of this bill by parliament, women are still being suppressed and badly treated in the name of old customs, religious and cultural traditions.”

“The main cause of discriminatory treatment against women is the feudal and tribal systems in Pakistan,” Hussain said.

“Women are an essential part of our society. The MQM wants equal rights for women in every walk of life.”

The MQM leader said his party would succeed in providing the women with equal rights and freeing them from the clutches of the suppressive tribal and feudal systems.
