Acid attacker gets death for killing women

MULTAN/SAHIWAL: A murderer, who had killed a woman and her daughter in an acid attack, has been awarded death sentence on three counts besides other punishments by Anti-Terrorism Court-I Multan.

The death convict Altaf Hussain will also have to serve 28 years in jail while his co-accused Nazar Hussain was acquitted by the court.

The prosecution said that the accused had killed Aziz Mai and her five years old daughter Sania in acid attack on which Alpa police had registered a case against him on April 22, 2013 on the complaint of Ghulam Muhamamd.

Police said that the accused had got irritated when a lady of the bereaved family Fatima scolded him on teasing Aziz Mai. He trespassed into the house of Aziz Mai along with his accomplice Nazar Hussain and threw acid on the entire family.

The ATC-I awarded the accused death sentence on two counts and Rs400,000 fine under section 302. He was also handed another death sentence under section 7-ATA with Rs1 million fine.

The ATC also convicted the accused for 28 years rigorous imprisonment and Rs2 million fine under section 336-D. The ATC acquitted accused Nazar Hussain on giving him the benefit of doubt.

Meanwhile, a condemned prisoner was hanged in Central Jail Multan in wee hours of Saturday. Death convict Abdul Ghaffar had killed his wife and two others following a domestic dispute in Muzaffargarh in 1991.

He was awarded death sentence by a Muzaffargarh court. Jail Superintendent Saeedullah Gondal confirmed that Abdul Ghaffar had been executed and his body handed over to his heirs.

In Sahiwal Jail, convict Wazir Ali was hanged till death. The convict along with his partners had tied Muhammad Azam, a resident of Darjanpur and murdered him in 1991. The court had ordered to hang him till death in 1994.

Meanwhile, Faiz Muhammad Faizi, a resident of Okara, who allegedly murdered Barkat Ali for honour in 1992 was arrested by police and the court ordered to hang him.
